T89(石家庄至广州)进站后,冲上火车。

Day 5 : 06-Feb-2003

This was the third day we stayed in Henan province and we decided to leave Pingdingshan.  After we checked out in the morning, we intended to take the photos about the steam locos going uphill the coal mine.  However, no steam engines were seen on the way to the coal mine.  Then we decided to go to Xuchang 许昌 and saw  the narrow gauge.  Xuchang was another city in Henan Province.  My friend’s father drove us to Xuchang.  After 1 hour, we reached Xuchang and our car stopped in front of the depot of the narrow gauge.

We walked inside and saw three narrow gauge diesel locos.  The narrow gauge track was a type of 762mm.  We spent almost 1 hour in the depot for photo-taking.

At noon, we wanted to travel on the narrow gauge but the train was delayed!!  So we gave up and went to have our lunch.  Our trip was over here!

After lunch, my friends accompanied me to go to the Xuchang CNR station to buy a ticket to Guangzhou.  However, all tickets to Guangzhou were sold out.  Therefore, I only bought a ticket to Xinyang and rushed into the T89 when it stopped.

On the station platform, we took a photo together.  While we were waiting for the train, a double head SS8 arrived at the station and it went northward.  The T89 reached the station at 4:30pm, and I started my trip back to Hong Kong.

As the ticket I bought was not to Guangzhou, so I needed to pay extra money to complete my journey to Guangzhou.  I paid RMB 183 (ticket here!).   Before the train arrived at Wuchang, I asked the chief whether there was a sleeping compartment of the train.  Luckily, it was available at the soft sleeper.  I paid RMB 239 (ticket here!) to sleep there for one night.  Otherwise, I would stay awake and sit for whole night.

It took 18 hours from Xuchang to Guangzhou by train.
